Police clash with anti-government protesters in Istanbul
Posted on 02:24 by Unknown
Turkish police have clashed with protesters during yet another anti-government demonstration in Istanbul.
Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd marching on the city's main court. The demonstrators threw rocks and Molotov cocktails and erected barricades. The clashes broke out over the case of a 14-year-old who was seriously injured during an anti-government demonstration in June. The boy has been in a coma since being hit by a tear gas canister during the protest. Monday's events were just the latest in pockets of unrest across Turkey. Last week, students at a university in the capital clashed with police over a plan for construction work on the campus. Some people took to the streets of Istanbul to show solidarity with the students facing off with police.
